Traditionally financial analysts offer investment research to institutional clients as a complimentary service. Portfolio Managers receive significant volumes of research via email and rudimentary online portals from multiple organisations on a daily basis. To overcome this challenge, many Portfolio Managers have:
- Employed staff to consolidate research based on qualifying criteria.
- Created multiple mailing addresses, one to receive research and investment information, the other to manage their day to day activities.
- Partnered with multiple service providers to obtain a balanced view of market conditions.
Hypothesis partnered with a leading investment bank to redefine their service offering. By implementing rapid prototyping and Agile development processes, we were able to build a platform which aggregated investment information across the market to provide a single source of truth for the bank’s clients, which generating additional revenue.
Often the term “digital” is used as a silver bullet to solve a retail problem, where businesses are looking to scale through the most cost effective means possible. Hypothesis recently delivered a Mobile App to provide the right information, to the right person, at the right time. We partnered with a trading desk, who compete in a market of only 150 high value niche clients. The challenges our client faced included:
- A small market with a number of global competitors in an industry where timing was key to match the buy and sell sides of a transaction.
- Unavailability of key stakeholders required to complete a trade.
- Unable to effectively target clients who may be interested in specific trades without having an intimate understanding of how their investment outlook would have changed over time.
During a 12 week period and a number of experimental iterations, Hypothesis were able to build and deploy a solution to the market within days. Target clients were overwhelmed by the App’s simplicity as it provided clarity to initiate a trade that they may never have been aware of. While this is only the start, it paved the road to behavioural change so that a win-win outcome for all involved could be achieved.
Hypothesis lead the delivery of a Mobile Digital Assistant for everyone. Utilising Design Thinking principles, sessions with over 100 staff were facilitated. Pain points and unproductive processes were identified to define a minimum viable product (MVP) which delivered:
- Ability to view staff information, location and availability while on the go.
- Functionality to approve a number of key decisions on a mobile device – traditionally these approvals were limited to legacy desktop applications which were disparate and difficult to navigate.
- The foundation of the intranet replacement initiative, integrating with user obsessed design principles.
Value driven user stories allowed the team to quickly prioritize their backlog, focusing on adoption and App usage to maximize mobility and approval turnaround times. As a result, the product saved the organisation money by implementing efficiencies within the business and established a number of base technical patterns for reuse in the future.
